Rotor blade tie-downs are an essential feature of full-size helicopter life. The tie-down protects the blades from swinging, rocking and stretching, and thereby prevents excessive pressure on the rotor shaft. If these measures were not taken the result could easily be in-flight mechanical failure; rotor blades spinning as the wind rises could strike obstacles and be damaged.
For safety and to keep the helicopter ready for flight the rotor blade tie-down is attached to the tail boom and / or the skid tubes.
The tie-down makes an attractive accessory for decorating your model helicopter in the pits.
